A lot of self-published stuff is not professionally edited and needs more editing and I kinda scrunch my nose when I come across walls of exposition, problems with the tone and character development, plot devices that make me shudder. Sometimes I wish I didn't become a writer because now I notice all the technical problems in books (I even found a crouch word in Game of Thrones, that's how bad I am) and it really is hard for me nowadays to find something that I really enjoy reading. The middle to end section was pretty slow but at that point I was so attached to the characters that I wanted to know where it all lead to. She really, really did a good job in terms of narration, character development, concept, voice, tone. I think my favourite MM read so far has been Dark Space by Lisa Henry.
